The Annual Dinner is a great opportunity to socialize and network with fellow GAWL members over a glass of wine and a delicious meal. Members often linger after the program for more networking opportunities. At the Annual Dinner, GAWL announces the winners of its annual awards, swears in its next Board and recognizes the GAWL Foundation scholarship recipients and members of the Leadership Academy class.

GAWL celebrated a milestone in late 2007 when its membership soared to more than 1,000 members! Our signature event is the Participation Party in the Fall of each year, which encourages our members and new members to join a GAWL committee and become more involved.

The Judicial Applicant Review Committee (JARC) researches judicial applicants and reports its findings to the State of Georgia's Judicial Nominating Committee (JNC), which is responsible for recommending to the Governor a short list of qualified individuals for judicial appointments. Before reporting to the JNC regarding the qualifications of the applicants for these positions, JARC reviews the applications and conducts background research on each applicant. Committee members obtain information on the judicial applicants by making inquiries in the legal community regarding the character, intellect, temperament, experience, ability and background of the applicants. After meeting and discussing each candidate, JARC then votes on whether to rank the applicant as “not qualified,” “qualified,” “well-qualified,” or exceptionally well-qualified” and presents its findings to the JNC.

The Public Affairs Committee focuses on providing our members with opportunities to improve their careers and impact their community through the legislative process and education. Specifically, this Committee focuses on public policy initiatives affecting women in Georgia by educating our members on getting involved in the legislative process, sponsoring select legislation (such as HB 200, the Freedom from Human Trafficking Act in January 2011), and continuing to address workplace policies such as family leave and part-time practices. In addition, the Committee hosts seminars and workshops that help our members achieve success in their careers and obtain leadership positions, including positions in for-profit and non-profit boards.
