One 2020 highlight has been watching our leadership in the legal community ignite public conversations that speak to & address racism in the profession.
This year, State Bar President, Dawn Jones, launched a series of programming entitled Courageous Conversations to encourage dialogue on sensitive topics surrounding race.
Similarly, Law.com has started a series of roundtable discussions on racism in the legal profession to facilitate honest—and often difficult—conversations to make progress toward a more inclusive and diverse legal industry.
And, it’s not just criminal or civil rights law dialogue. The conversations force reflection on every single aspect of life.
Like - - what you eat, where you live, how you are educated, the doctors you have, the activities available in your community, your friends, your job, your ability to gain funding, your ability to hire, your ability to start a business, your neighborhood grocery stores…
Taking our inspiration from leaders like Dawn Jones, GAWL is working to create more spaces for honest conversations among our members to talk about what we are hearing, what we have experienced, and what opportunities exist to effect change.
To that end, Veronica Cope, Kareemah Lewis, Jakeema Bascoe, and Erin Gerstenzang have organized a Zoom-enabled roundtable discussion for GAWL members where we will explore some of these issues together.
This is a great opportunity for growth and connection with fellow GAWL members and we would love for you to join us.
