GAWL puts on a two-day program designed for rising 8th-12th grade Girl Scouts to earn a badge related to law and legal issues. With the help of GAWL volunteers, the girls participate in a mock trial that is presided over by a real judge. If you know a girl who would like to attend one of these programs, you can register on the Girl Scouts website. But the spots are filling up quickly!
GAWL also hosts a one-day program on July 12 for younger girls (rising 4th to 7th graders) focusing on how laws are made and changed. As part of their program, these girls will have the opportunity to observe the older girls' trial and participate in the badge ceremony/reception with the judge following the trial.
Finally, the older girls will also be invited to participate in a follow-up event on July 21 at Alston & Bird. There, the girls will tour the firm and get an unique insiders' view into the legal practice.
If you are interested in the volunteering with the mock trial, please email Catherine Salinas at catherine_m_salinas@gand.uscourts.gov.
