Tuwanda Rush Williams
In June 2023, Tuwanda became "Of Counsel" for the law firm of Thompson O'Brien Kappler & Nasuti, PC in Peachtree Corners, where she practices primarily local government law and litigation for the City of Norcross and Bryan County. She is formerly a Deputy County Attorney in the Gwinnett County Department of Law, where she supervised and managed the work of attorneys who handle both transactional and litigation matters for the Gwinnett County Departments of Community Services, Corrections, Financial Services, Fire & Emergency Services, Planning & Development, Police Services, Sheriff's Office, Support Services, Transportation, and Water Resources. Her team also provided advice and counsel to the Judicial System, Administrative Office of the Courts, Clerk of Court, District Attorney’s Office, Solicitor’s Office, Tax Commissioner, and Chief Medical Examiner under contract with the county. Her litigation experience is expansive, and most recently concentrated in section 1983 civil rights and constitutional law, state law claims of assault, battery, unlawful arrest, false imprisonment, and malicious prosecution, eminent domain, property tax appeals, public procurement and contract disputes, personal injury, and property damage. She has practiced law since 1992.
Tuwanda served as an officer of the Gwinnett County Bar Association for five years, culminating her service as President from 2012 to 2013, and she holds the distinction as the first African American officer of the Gwinnett Bar Association in its 70-year history. In addition, she co-established the Gwinnett Chapter of the Georgia Association for Women Lawyers while serving as Statewide Chair of the Association’s Membership Committee in March 2009, and she is a Past President of the Chapter. She currently holds active memberships in multiple bar and civic associations and the alumnae chapter of her sorority.
