Member Spotlight: Danielle Simpson

Our February member spotlight is on Danielle Simpson, Founder and Managing Attorney of Georgia Teen Legal Defense, which she opened in November 2025. On this new chapter, Danielle said, “launching my own firm has been a long-time dream come true. I built this practice with one mission in mind: serving young people across Georgia in meaningful, holistic, and empowering ways. Watching that vision come to life has been incredibly fulfilling...I’ve served as a juvenile prosecutor, defense attorney, handled truancy cases, and volunteered in tribunals over the years. Georgia Teen Legal Defense is the culmination of all that experience, heart, and passion. I’ve been overwhelmingly supported by the women I’ve met through GAWL, and I’ve gained not only mentors and colleagues—but lifelong friends. As an only child, I truly feel like I found the sisters I always wanted."

Danielle attended the University of North Dakota School of Law, which she described as "a lovely communal experience, especially as I had a toddler in law school," but she always knew she wanted to move to Georgia.” Once in Georgia, Danielle joined GAWL in 2019 through the West Georgia Chapter while serving as a Juvenile Prosecutor in Douglas County. She was convinced to join GAWL by former GAWL President, Ebony Phillips. Danielle said, “there is something undeniably powerful about women supporting women. And honestly, when Ebony asks you to do something… how could you say no? Joining GAWL felt like stepping into a space filled with brilliance, encouragement, and genuine sisterhood."

Danielle previously served as Co-Chair of the Communications Committee, which she said was "an incredible experience that allowed me to truly learn the heartbeat of the organization—from programs and events to the incredible women behind them.” Danielle has also found section events very rewarding. She said, "West Georgia’s Wine Down Wednesdays brought women together from all over the state, creating community in such an intentional way. I also absolutely love the Girl Scouts Mock Trial event led by Anissa Patton and President Kareemah Lewis. Working with young people—especially girls who are curious about the law—fills my cup every time. It’s truly investing in the future lawyers and leaders of Georgia."

Outside of GAWL, Danielle is a huge fan of "non-demanding reality TV,” including Below Deck Mediterranean and Love Is Blind. She's also deeply involved in child-focused organizations, and she coaches Mock Trial at her son’s high school in Atlanta. She’s also an avid movie-goer.

According to Danielle, “women in child welfare work are doing some of the hardest—and most important—work there is. When women show up for children, families, and each other, real change happens. GAWL creates the space for that magic to grow, and I’m grateful to be part of it."
