Raising the Bar on Equal Pay

A Seminar at the Carter Center

Join GAWL, the Committee to Promote Inclusion, the Young Lawyers Division, the Georgia Asian Pacific American Bar Association, the Georgia Association of Black Women Attorneys, and the Georgia Hispanic Bar Association at the Carter Center on Equal Pay Day, April 10, 2018, as we raise the bar on pay equity.

Come help us raise awareness on the gender pay gap issue and develop strategies to navigate the pay gap professionally and financially. This will be an afternoon of engaging speakers, conversations, and ideas to move forward and to aid women across the gap.

The seminar, which is scheduled from 1:30 - 5:45 p.m., will provide 3 CLE hours and will conclude with a reception from 5:45 - 6:45 p.m. to celebrate our strategic outlook on equal pay.


The event will encompass the following:

1:45 - 2:00 | Welcome and Statistical Overview: Exploring the Pay Gap Across Gender and Race

2:00 - 2:50 | Legislating the Gap: Should We Advocate for Pay Equity?  

Women deserve equal pay, and legislators are listening on the State and Federal levels. Initiatives are underway to increase pay equity enforcement and strengthen protections against wage discrimination. This session will explore the history of legislation surrounding pay equity from the beginning up until recent times and explore perspectives on whether legislating the gap is a proper means to eliminate the pay disparity.

3:00 - 3:50 | Financing the Gap: How Do You Plan for the Pay Disparity?

This session acknowledges the gender pay gap and examines how women can educate themselves and financially and strategically plan for the shortfall that will affect their retirement. Listen to varying perspectives on how to finance the gap, as well as how to secure your financial future.
