GAWL/GLA Legal Clinic

GAWL/GLA Legal Clinic

Georgia Association for Women Lawyers (GAWL) is partnering with Georgia Lawyers for the Arts (GLA) to host a walk-in legal clinic from 1:00 pm until 5:00 pm on Thursday, October 1st at GLA’s offices located at King Plow Arts Center in West Midtown. Attorneys are needed to staff free 30-minute legal consultations with GLA’s artist clients. Please contact Tiffany Smith if you are interested in volunteering for a portion or the entire afternoon, and let us know your practice area.

Attorneys will receive the clients’ legal issues in advance, and the consultations are designed both to provide general legal advice and to help clients determine whether or they need to engage a GLA attorney going forward. The GLA staff vets each client to make sure the issues are appropriate for a 30-minute consultation.

The clinics are a great way to help out and get in some pro bono time without an ongoing commitment – a perfect opportunity for busy attorneys who want to give back to Georgia artists. They also provide a great learning opportunity if you would like to bring a junior attorney to observe. Intellectual property attorneys are needed as there are often general copyright and trademark issues, but many of the questions relate to general contract interpretation, so all attorney backgrounds are great for this experience.

GLA, currently celebrating its 40th anniversary, is Georgia’s only organization offering free legal services to artists. In addition to the clinics and pro bono services, GLA also offers regular classes and other learning opportunities for its clients and members.

GAWL, founded in 1928, proudly serves the diverse interests of women lawyers around Georgia.   GAWL has been pioneering for women lawyers for 80 years, staying true to its mission to enhance the welfare and development of women lawyers and to support their interests.
