Welcome to GAWL's Southside Chapter!
Welcome to the Georgia Associate for Women Lawyers' Southside Chapter (GSC). As GAWL's newest chapter, GSC encompasses Butts, Clayton, Coweta, Fayette, Henry, and Spalding counties. GSC seeks to uphold the mission of GAWL to enhance the welfare and development of women lawyers and to support their interests. GSC also strives to maintain the honor and integrity of the legal profession; to inform and educate lawyers in the Southside region on matters pertaining to their professional interests and status; to aid in the administration of justice; to do the things necessary and proper to promote and advance the objectives of GAWL; and to encourage region-wide participation by all members of GSC.
Chapter History:
GSC was initially organized by Kathy Harrington, a patent attorney and partner in the firm Harrington and Harrington, who hosted a GAWL breakfast at the Hazlehurst House in McDonough in May of 2007 to gauge the interest of area attorneys. The breakfast was extremely well-attended, and those in favor of a new GAWL chapter in the area numbered well over 45. The chapter's founding officers included Kathy Harrington, President; Amy Pettway, Vice President; Lindsay Hodgson, Secretary; Janice Wallace, Treasurer; Pandora Palmer, Strategic Partnerships Chair; and Virginia Martin, Member-at-Large. Bolstered by such a strong showing of support from the southside legal community, GSC was accorded chapter status by the statewide GAWL board on July 10, 2007 and has enjoyed great success thus far. Over 70 professionals gathered at the chapter's premier event in August, 2007, for a poolside barbecue and informal networking. Other events held during GSC's inaugural year included a Fall Wine Tasting, a Christmas Celebration, a Judicial Luncheon and a Spring Social.
