Our Goal is to support the election, appointment, and promotion of qualified women lawyers to leadership positions.  To accomplish our Goal, the Leadership Committee:

• Provides extensive leadership training opportunities to GAWL members, including our exclusive Leadership Academy and the Leader Within Program;
• Identifies talented candidates and encourages women lawyers to run for publicly elected office (including judgeships) and seek leadership roles in bar organizations; and
• Supports women lawyers in obtaining leadership roles in non-profits, law firms, corporations, and other businesses.  

GAWL LEADERSHIP ACADEMY- It's About Leadership

The GAWL Leadership Academy provides four days of hands-on leadership training for selected GAWL members who have been in practice at least six years and who have demonstrated strong leadership potential.  Interested participants must apply to be accepted into the Leadership Academy.  The 2010 Leadership Academy sessions will be held February 26-27 at Callaway Gardens; March 28-29 at the new State Bar offices in Savannah; and April 23 at the Margaret Mitchell House in Atlanta.  Applications are available now.  Click here for a PDF form that can be submitted by email, or click here to apply now online. 

Our 2009 Leadership Academy graduates are: Precious Anderson, Eleanor Attwood, Veronica Brinson, Kristin Brooks, Veronica Cope, Alyson Harter, Cassandra Kirk, Rhonda Kreuziger, Cindy Manning, Andraya Mimms, Wendy Owens, Elena Parent, Kathleen Simcoe, Julie Wade, Mialeeka Williams and Jennifer Wolak.  The sixteen members of the 2009 Leadership Academy class are from diverse backgrounds, including in-house counsel, large firm attorneys, government attorneys, solo and small firm attorneys.  They work in Atlanta, Fayetteville, Macon and Savannah.  Congratulations to each of these members of the Class of 2009.

THE LEADER WITHIN SEMINAR

The Leader Within is an intensive leadership training half-day seminar presented in conjunction with the Atlanta Bar Association Women In Profession Section.  The seminar is geared toward attorneys interested in developing their leadership skills and features small-group discussions led by senior attorneys.  Discussion topics include finding your leadership voice, personal and professional goal setting, and promoting yourself as a leader.  Please save Tuesday, January 26, 2009 for this opportunity to learn, network, and to receive CLE credit.

 We welcome GAWL members to share our enthusiasm for developing and supporting leadership for women attorneys.  We have a dedicated group of volunteers, and we invite you to join our subcommittee preparing The Leader Within or one of four subcommittees—Venues & Logistics, Application & Selection, Speakers & Topics, or Marketing—preparing for the Leadership Academy.
